Privacy Policy
PriceTrue lets you scan shelf prices while you shop and see whether a price is genuinely good. This policy explains what is collected, why, and for how long.
The short version: your location is used to identify the store you are standing in — not to build a map of where you go.
Location
- Location is requested only while you are using the app, and only when you ask to find a store or view nearby prices.
- Background location is never requested.
- Your position is used to match the store branch you are in. Once matched, what is stored is the branch identifier, not your coordinate.
- The temporary coordinate held on a shopping session is cleared the moment you finish the trip.
- Your precise location is never shown to other users.
- Declining location does not stop the app working; you pick your store from a list instead.
Price observations
When you scan a shelf label we record the product, the branch, the price, the time and confidence signals. This is the data that makes PriceTrue useful to everyone.
- Other users see the price, the branch and how long ago it was seen — never who submitted it.
- Contributing is a preference. Turn it off and your observations stay in your own history, never reaching the shared network.
- Prices are never overwritten; each new price is a new record. That is how price history exists.
Account data

Guest accounts hold no personal data. Registering on the same device claims your guest account, so nothing you scanned beforehand is lost.
Receipts
Receipt images are personal documents. They are kept on private storage, reachable only through short-lived signed links and only by the person who captured them. They are never published at a public address and never attached to shared price data.
On-device processing
Camera frames do not leave your device. Barcode detection and text recognition (OCR) run locally; a frame is never uploaded. What reaches the server is the result: a product, a price, a branch.
What PriceTrue does not do
- No advertising SDKs, behavioural tracking, session replay or third-party analytics.
- No selling or marketing-sharing of personal data.
- No exposing one user's data to another. Family sharing is granted per category (lists, history, alerts, budget) and controlled by the household owner.
Security
Session tokens live in the iOS Keychain / Android Keystore and are never written to a log. Passwords are hashed. Subscription state is updated only by signature-verified store notifications.

Exporting your data
From inside the app you can request your profile, shopping history, lists, receipt metadata and price alerts in a machine-readable format.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app or from the data deletion page. On deletion:
- every session token is revoked,
- receipt images are deleted along with their files,
- alerts, favourites, memberships, device records and preferences are deleted,
- household ownership passes to another member, or the household is dissolved,
- the price observations you contributed are anonymised — the link to you is cut,
- identifying fields on the account row are cleared and the account is deleted.
Step five is deliberate: the price history stays useful to other shoppers, but after deletion it is no longer connected to a person.
